White Space Rules
What is whitespace? Whitespace is not the “white color” on your page. Whitespace is the negative space or the “blank areas” that you have on your web pages. This is the portion of the page that isn’t covered with text, graphics, or images. Whitespace is important on every type of web page. It helps the information flow smoothly with an uncluttered look.
The use of good whitespace brings the focus to what is there and gives a more elegant and luxurious feel. Simple is best and beautiful. You can deliver a strong message with less well chosen words and placement so that the reader’s eye is drawn to special elements on the page. White space makes your website easier to read and navigate while allowing the eyes and brain to rest. Otherwise, if they get overwhelmed, visitors will move to a competitor’s site. When used properly, whitespace is an asset. It makes the website feel structured but yet relaxed emphasizing the most important information.
If you are in the process of designing your website, don’t forget to incorporate white space into your design. If you already have a website, pull it up and look objectively at the amount of whitespace.
Is your website breathing and functioning to give you the clients that you want?
